4th of May, words spoken by Femke Halsema mayor of Amsterdam
These words were spoken by Femke Halsema:
Let us try to have a soft mind for all those people that experience a war every day. Let us be kind to those who moarn for all those children that couln’t be saved. Let us be silent. Let us comfort each other.
The mayor of Amsterdam
Spoke these words
The main square ‘de Dam’ was painfully empty
In this moment we remember together
Together we remember all those people who
As a civilian,
As a military,
As a rebel,
As a hider,
As an offender,
As a victim,
As a marginalized person,
Died in World War II
Died in all wars before that big war
Died in all wars after that big war
That painfully empty square
Is empty because of the fact
That we as mankind
Still struggle
With questions
How can we bring
Our disagreements, our different views or needs
Together
With love
With listening
With asking questions
With softness in our hearts
Or
With guns
With destruction
With judgments
With fear and dispair
Ik hear her words of hope
She tells us that we must find courage
To think of our children
They will follow our example
What is our best choice from there perspective
What is our best way we can lead by example
Which answer is our best
